One of the greatest learning tools in my experience is reverse engineering other people’s project files. Cracking open the lid on a professionally produced project and seeing how it was put together, the processing chains, the sound design, seeing how it’s mixed firsthand, and getting your hands on the sounds used within. There’s so much to learn and take away from this, I only wish these types of resources were more readily available when I was getting started!

Julian or “Jules” is a South African born, UK based producer. He founded Basic Wavez originally as an apparel company in 2018. All the while focussing on music and sound design. In 2020 his musical project (Bound to Divide) started to gain traction along with his YouTube channel. Basic Wavez started releasing Sample packs and Sound Banks and the response was astounding. Jules’ main focus since has been to constantly develop and improve all aspects of music creation and education – he is now in charge of the planning and creation of all products at Basic Wavez, as well as guiding and working with various other sound designers and musicians.

In this phase I select my favourite 4 tracks, find vocals, and work on a bit of mixing and polishing.
In this phase we look at the final 3 completely finished projects in detail. These records got released on Colorize and Sekora and went on to amass over 700,000 streams to date.

This course is aimed at an intermediate to advanced level producer who is already familiar with Ableton Live but wants to take a deep dive into Bound to Divides workflow and see the full process from initial idea to signing and releasing. Multiple third party VSTs are being used, however, the channels are frozen so you should still be able to access the projects if you are missing them.

You will not be provided with materials to allow you to follow along. However, you can learn a lot and transfer the principles over to your own projects.
